Pressurized Staircase

Activates emergency staircase pressurization systems from the Firebee alarm, keeping escape routes smoke-free.

Overview

Firebee integrates staircase pressurization systems to its central unit through a repeater with relays for contactors, allowing third-party fans and pressurization equipment to be activated by the Firebee central unit on fire alarm.

Pressurized staircases are an essential element in tall and complex buildings, designed to ensure a safe escape route during fire situations. Staircase pressurization is achieved through systems that maintain air pressure inside the stairwell higher than in adjacent areas, preventing smoke and toxic gases from invading this evacuation zone. This is especially critical in fires, where smoke can spread rapidly, compromising occupant safety and hindering evacuation.

The pressurization system consists of powerful fans that automatically or manually come into operation when the fire alarm is triggered. These fans ensure a continuous flow of clean air into the stairwell, maintaining positive pressure and creating a barrier against smoke. Additionally, the system is designed to maintain pressure within safe limits, allowing stairwell access doors to be opened without excessive effort, facilitating the evacuation of people and providing fire-fighting teams with access.

Pressurized staircases are a requirement in many fire safety codes, particularly in commercial buildings, high-rise residential buildings, and hospitals. They are a passive safety measure, crucial for saving lives by ensuring that escape routes remain usable even in large-scale fires. Furthermore, this system provides additional protection for rescue teams and firefighters, who can use the pressurized staircases as a safe route to reach fire locations and evacuate people in critical situations.
